ASUS N73SV-V1G-TY282V:( hp 452057-001 ) Premium multimedia made in Taiwan or weak hardware in a strong case?In November 2010, a genuine multimedia desktop replacement went through our tests. The N73JQ-TZ087V with a fat quad core processor (Core i7-740QM) and GeForce GT 425M. Price: 1270 euros. ( apple a1185 battery ) The graphics performance was a bit too weak for gaming, but the so-called ICEpower & Sonic Master Audio System presented itself from its best side. Even the Full HD screen with great viewing angles was the perfect partner for high definition movie entertainment via BluRay (ROM).

The demand was likely low due to the high price.( sony vgp-bps13as battery ) This can only be guessed because the predecessors are on the virtual shelves today. Even the most expensive version (N73SV-V1G-TY279V) with a Core i7 2630QM costs less than 1000 euros (2x500 GB, WXGA++). ( vgp-bps13s battery ) We opt for low cost and have brought the N73SV-V1G-TY282V with a Core i5-2410M (2x2.30 GHz) and NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M into our editorial office.

In which points have cutbacks been made in the previous showpiece model, ( battery sony vgp-bps13b/b ) N73JQ-TZ087V ? Has the workmanship also changed? What does the quality of the 17.3 inch WXGA++ screen look like?( vgp-bps13b/s battery ) Is the N73SV still a milestone in laptop acoustics? All answers in this review.

Base cover has to be removed underneath the keyboardThe N73SV's heavy and large case is impressive at first glance.( battery VGP-BPS13 ) Of course, not with elegant portability – the 3448 grams radiate robustness and high quality. Nothing has changed in comparison to the N73JQ in this regard – but a few details have. The screen no longer is hidden behind a Plexiglas plate (edge-to-edge display bezel). ( sony vgp-bps13/b battery ) This isn't much of a loss though, especially since the screen reflects intensely either way.

Otherwise, all remains as usual.( battery VGP-BPS13 ) The majority of the surfaces are made of brushed aluminum (lid, wrist-rest, loudspeaker cover). The plastic base tray can't be dent, not even at the vents. ( battery dell vostro 1520 ) We find the dual HDD option (1x500 GB installed, 1 x 2.5 inch SATA unoccupied), the main memory (2 modules) and the WLAN module underneath a larger maintenance cover. However,( Compaq CQ42 Battery ) the cover can only be removed when the screws underneath the keyboard are loosened. There is no longer a third RAM slot underneath it as was the case in the N73JQ.



The 17.3 incher brings along a lot of interfaces. Nevertheless,( HP Compaq 8510P battery ) certain needs haven't been considered. Unfortunately, there is only one USB 3.0 port. The other three are the usual USB 2.0 ports. eSATA, ( battery hp 4510s ) available in the N73JQ, has been removed without replacement. Retrofitting interfaces, e.g. iLINK, is not possible due to the lack of an ExpressCard slot.

WLAN in the latest draft n is just as much standard as an integrated Bluetooth module ( HP probook 6545B Battery ) (3.0 +HS) gigabit Ethernet. If you have a T.V. set with an INTEL WIRELESS DISPLAY support, ( Compaq 8510W battery ) the Centrino Wireless N 1000 adapter and core processor provide a wireless video transmission to the television. The software "My WiFi" technology (Intel MWT) and wireless display has to be installed and enabled.

The mouse replacement is made of hard,( Acer Aspire 4520 battery ) slightly textured plastic. The surface is touch-sensitive up to its edges. The pad doesn't have any vertical or horizontal scroll bar. Scrolling is however possible via multi-finger gestures.( battery VGP-BPS9/B ) Thus, implemented scroll bars are no longer mandatory.

The 17.3 inch screen can only meet the high expectations with a viable brightness. The screen has a resolution of 1600x900 pixels (WXGA++; 16:9). If you need a very clearly arranged desktop, you can work well with this resolution. ( HP Compaq 8510w battery ) The display has a weakness with a low contrast of 163:1.

The glare type pretties up the weak contrasts optically,( Dell inspiron 6400 Battery ) though. Consequently, a visually acceptable color impression is created. The screen isn't suitable for professional picture editors since the color spectrum doesn't even cover sRGB (t).



The brightness assessment on the 17.3 inch screen shows adequate results. ( battery Vostro 1520 ) The average brightness is 228 cd/m2. Gossen's Mavo Monitor measures up to 232 cd/m2. As a result, ( Sony VGP-BPS13B/B battery ) the illumination is very even with 94 percent. Users hardly ever need a brightness beyond 150 cd/m2 indoors.

If you place the Asus N73SV in the sun,( Dell vostro 1510 battery ) you should look for a shady place to avoid reflections. Our pictures were taken in cloudy conditions and in maximum brightness. The result is quite viable since the screen isn't dimmed in battery mode. However,(Battery Sony VGP-BPS13/B ) reflections will be annoying depending on light incidence.

Lateral view, ( Battery Dell Inspiron 1525 ) sunWe can move up to 60 degrees from the frontal view horizontally. The colors start to invert beyond that. However, the brightness remains constant past that and script can be read up to 70 degrees. The negative effect starts at 15 degrees vertically. We experience the greatest restrictions when looking down or up from the sides. Thus, placing several people in front of the display isn't a good idea.( Battery Dell Inspiron 1420 ) We have depicted the viewing angles in a video.

The Intel Core i5-2410M (2x2.3 GHz) has a Turbo rate of up to 2.9 GHz. The 2011 Intel Cores can increase the clock rate beyond the defined maximum rate with "Dynamic Range @ Turbo Frequency Limits", providing that the cooling allows it and certain temperature limits are maintained.

The Nvidia Geforce GT 540M (1024 MB) is not solely responsible for 3D calculations. ( Dell 1520 battery ) The graphics chip, HD Graphics 3000, in the i5 processor is enabled and takes over graphic calculations when Nvidia Optimus disables the dedicated GPU.( Inspiron 1720 Battery ) The RAM configuration is 4GB, whereas one 4096 MB module is inserted.

What is the 2410M (2x2.3 GHz) capable of in comparison to the 2010 i5 generation?( Dell Vostro 1320 Battery ) The 2410M achieves good 4607 points in single core processing (Cinebench R10 Single 64bit).( Dell Laptop Battery ) A higher clocked 2010 460M (2x2.53 GHz, Turbo 2.8 GHz) is defeated with 3939 points (e.g. Acer Aspire 3820TG, 13.3 inch).

If you decode movies with Video Magic,( Sony VGP-BPS13A/S battery ) you'll benefit from multi-threading with a higher clock rate. The 2410M reaches 9791 points in the according test. The 2010 i5-460M (4 threads) is clearly defeated: 8060 to 8342 points (e.g. Acer Aspire 5820TG). PCMark Vantage determines 5775 points. ( Latitude D620 Battery ) That is about as much as i5-460M systems from 2010 achieve (up to 6000 points, e.g. Acer Aspire). This system performance score is only dependent to an extent on the graphics card. Thus, the fairly strong GeForce GT 540M hardly has an impact with its 7902 3DMarks06. It's sooner the rotating HDD that keeps the system on the ground. PCMark Vantage scores of 10000 up to 14000 points would be easily possible with an SSD (flash memory for the hard disk). For example, the Schenker XMG A701 with 14285 points.

As said, performance boosts can't be expected from the hard disk due to its rotating characteristic. PCMark Vantage's HDD sub score is only 3350 points. Fast 7200 rpm hard disks first achieve up to 4000 points.( Battery Acer Aspire 4710 ) SSDs play in a completely different league (20000 to 36000(!) points). For example, see the XMG A701 with an Intel 510 Series X-25M Elm Crest: 36720 points (HDD sub score). The hard disk (500 GB) from Seagate only reads with 58 MB/s in sequential read (HD Tune). Our comparison Elm Crest SSD reaches 302 MB/s in read.

The GeForce GT 540M (1024 MB DDR3) belongs to the upper GPU midrange.( Battery Acer Aspire One ) The chip based on the GF108 core (Fermi) supports both DirectX 11 and GDDR5 memories. However, ( VGP-BPS13A/S Battery ) the slower and cheaper DDR3 video memory is installed, as usual. It clocks with 900/900 MHz (core/memory), which is at the upper end of the specifications. For example, Acer uses 800 MHz (Aspire 5742G). The GPU supports Optimus and can be disabled in favor of the Intel HD 3000.

Medium oder Well Done? ( akku Sony VGP-BPS21A/B ) Mit dem 7-Zoll Tablet will Dell auch ein Stück vom Tablet-Markt ab haben. Das Streak basiert auf dem Betriebssystem Android 2.2 und wird von einem 1 GHz getaktetem Tegra2-Dual-Prozessor angetrieben. Ist das Streak von Dell nur rohes Fleisch oder gut Durch(dacht)?



Das zweite Modell von Dells Streak Tablet/MID-Serie ( Latitude D630 Akku ) (5" bereits hier im Test) besitzt ein Touchscreen von 7 Zoll Bildschirmdiagonale und ist somit um 2 Zoll größer als beim ersten Modell.(Akku VGP-BPS10/B ) Jetzt sieht das Streak schon eher aus wie ein Tablet-PC und nicht mehr wie ein zu groß gewordenes Smartphone. Aus dem kleinen Web-Pad ist ein vollwertiger Tablet-PCs auf Androidbasis geworden.

Das handlich kleine Streak wird von einer Dual-Core-CPU vom Typ Tegra2 von nVidia angetrieben. ( Akku Aspire 5100 ) Bedient wird das Streak fast ausschließlich über das 7-Zoll-Multitouch-Display.( VGP-BPS10A/B Akku ) Die Netzwerkanbindung erfolgt über WiFi nach IEEE 802.11 b/g/n-Standard oder Bluetooth mit EDR+ Unterstützung. Der interne Speicher von 16 GByte lässt sich durch SD- oder SDHC-Speicherkarten bis auf 80 GByte erweitern.

Das Streak eignet sich als e-Mail-Client, ( Akku Inspiron 9400 ) Anbindung an die sozialen Netzwerke, vollwertiges Navigationssystem, zum Chatten oder als Gaming-Plattform. Mit der eingebauten HD-Camera mit 5 Megapixel, lassen sich unterwegs auch Schnappschüsse oder hochauflösende Videoclips erstellen.

Sieht man sich das Streak genauer an, fällt auf, ( Akku sony VGP-BPS13B/S ) dass am Gerät nur über wenige Schnittstellen und Bedienelemente verfügt. Der 7 Zoll große Touchscreen passt sich gut dem schwarzen Kunststoffrahmen an.

Das Streak ist recht handlich und besitzt eine Dicke von 12,4 mm.( sony VGP-BPS13b/b Akku ) In der Breite sind es knapp 20 cm bei einer Höhe von 119,8 mm. Das Gewicht von 454 Gramm fühlt sich jedoch weniger an.( Acer Aspire 3680 akku ) Man soll es nicht glauben, dass es dennoch knapp ein Pfund auf die Waage bringt. Zum Vergleich das Galaxy Tab 7" von Samsung bringt nur 380 g auf die Waage, das Ziio 7“ von Creative 415 Gramm.

Auf der Unterseite sitzt der Anschluss für eine Dockingstation, (Akku sony VGP-BPS13/b ) der auch mit dem beiliegenden USB-Daten- und Ladekabel genutzt werden kann. Eine passende Heim-Audio-/Video-Dockingstation wird von Dell für rund 55 Euro angeboten. An der rechten Seite des Gerätes sind unter einer Abdeckung ein SD-Kartenleser und ein nicht verwendbarer SIM-Karten-Slot platziert.( VGP-BPS21/B Akku ) In unserer WiFi-Version des Streak-Tablets ist der SIM-Karten Slot nicht nutzbar. Auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite, also links am Gerät, ( aspire 7740 Akku ) ist ein Kopfhörerausgang (3.5-mm-Klinke) zu finden. Auf der Oberseite vom Streak 7-Zoll hat Dell den Ein- und Ausschalter und den Regler für die Lautstärke platziert.

Für die Connectivity setzt Dell beim Streak bei diesem Modell auf Wireless-LAN (WiFi) und Bluetooth.( Sony VGP-BPS13a/q Akku ) Der kabellose Netzwerk- und Internetzugang entspricht dem Standard IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, ( akku VGP-BPS9A/S ) Bluetooth entspricht den Spezifikationen V2.1+DER. Des weiteren ist im Streak ein GPS-Empfänger eingebaut, der das Streak zum Navi mutieren lässt.

Das Streak 7-Zoll ist standardmäßig mit zwei Kameras ausgestattet.( Akku Compaq presario CQ60 ) Die Front-Kamera besitzt eine Auflösung von 1.2 Megapixel und eignet sich besonders gut zum Chatten, Skypen oder Videochats. Die auf der Rückseite angebrachte 5 Megapixel Digicam besitzt einen Autofokus und einen eingebauten Blitz. Bedient wird die Digicam direkt über dem 7-Zoll großen Touchscreen.( HP Compaq CQ42 akku ) Neben Fotos lassen sich auch Videoclips aufnehmen. Die Auflösung liegt zwischen QCIF (176 x 144) bis hin zu 720P (1280 x 720). Die Größe der Bilder lässt sich zwischen VGA- und 5 Megapixel in 5 Stufen einstellen. Gespeichert werden die Videos im H.264-Format mit der Endung MP4. Die Bedienung der Kamera ist einfach. Alle Funktionen werden über den Touchscreen ausgewählt.( Akku Acer 5920G ) Nur im Outdoor-Bereich und vor allem bei direktem Sonnenlicht ist das spiegelnde Display vom Tablet sehr hinderlich. Außerdem fällt auf, dass die Position der Kamera schlecht gewählt ist, wenn man das Streak mit beiden Händen hält. Schnell ist die Kameralinse mit einem Finger abgedeckt. Die Lösung wäre gewesen, wenn Dell die Frontkamera mittig platziert hätte.

Die 5 Megapixel Digicam besitzt auch einen digitalen Zoom.( Fujitsu LifeBook T5010 Akku ) Hiermit lassen sich auch entfernte Objekte gut heranzoomen. Jedoch, wie es bei digitalen Zooms üblich ist, verpixelt das Bild,( Fujitsu FPCBP136 Akku ) je höher der eingesetzte Zoom-Faktor ist. Unsere Testbilder vom Garten zeigen zum einen das Bild ohne Zoom. Das nebenstehende Bild mit einem 3.8-fachem Zoom und zum Vergleich das gleiche Bild mit einer Canon Powershoot SX110.

Die Bilder, ( Sony VGP-BPS2 akku ) die eine Durchschnittsgröße von etwa etwa 2.6 MByte besitzen (2592 x 1944 Pixel bei 72 dpi), werden zunächst auf dem internen Speicher abgelegt, ebenso die Videos. Über die Front-Kamera lassen sich keine Aufnahmen machen.( Akku Apple A1185 ) Diese dient ausschließlich fürs Chatten.

Zum Lieferumfang des Tablet gehört auch ein USB-Daten- und Ladekabel sowie einen passenden Netzadapter. Die mehrsprachige Dokumentation ist in einem mehrfarbigen Büchlein zu finden. Außerdem liefert Dell einen In-Ear Ohrhörer mit. ( Acer AL10D56 Akku ) Die Garantiezeit beläuft sich auf die üblichen 24 Monate.

Texteingaben erfolgen ausschließlich über eine virtuelle Tastatur, ( Akku Dell 6400 ) die je nach Anwendung eingeblendet wird. In deutschen Apps zeigt das Streak eine QWERTZ-Tastatur jedoch ohne deutsche Umlaute.(Akku VGP-BPS13b/q ) In englischsprachigen Programmen wechselt die Tastatur auf US, also QWERTY. Die berührten Tasten reagieren schnell, jedoch längere Emails sind so nur mühsam zu erstellen.

Neben dem einzelnen ( Dell M1530 Akku ) Antippen der virtuellen Tasten lässt sich die Eingabe auch über dem Swipe-Modus erledigen. Das heißt, der Finger bleibt beim Tippen auf dem Bildschirm und muss beim passenden Buchstaben kurz gestoppt werden.

Schneller geht die Eingabe über die Spracherkennung.( Fujitsu FPCBP89 Akku ) Das gesprochene Wort wird per Mikrofon der Webcam erkannt, analysiert und als Vorschlag auf dem Display angezeigt. Die Erkennung war im Test sehr genau. Selbst ganze Sätze inklusive Satzzeichen wurde richtig erkannt.

Die Spracheingabe funktioniert auch mit dem Web-Broser und mit Google.( akku Acer Aspire One ) Der Suchbegriff oder die zu besuchende Webseite wird inklusive dem Punkt (DOT) und der Landeserkennung per Spracherkennung eingeben und wird binnen Sekunden als Textvorschlag angezeigt.

Sensorik

Im Streak ist ein Bewegungs- und Neigesenor eingebaut. ( akku Apple A1175 ) Der Inhalt des Displays reagiert sehr schnell auf die Lage des Tablets.( Acer Aspire 1830T Akku ) Einige Spiele nutzen diese Technik, um die Spielfigur durch die einzelnen Levels zu steuern. In den Settings lässt sich das Mitdrehen des Displayinhaltes auch abschalten.

SelbstportraitDas 7-Zoll große Display besitzt eine Auflösung von 800 x 480 Bildpunkten bei einem Verhältnis von 16 : 9. Die Oberfläche des kapazitiven Displays ist berührungsempfindlich und unterstützt je nach Anwendung auch Multitouch-Eingaben. Je nach Lage des Tablets dreht sich der Inhalt des Displays mit. Diese Funktion wird jedoch nicht von allen Apps unterstützt.

Die Helligkeit und die dargestellte Farben wirken subjektiv sehr angenehm. Die maximale Helligkeit können wir 309 cd/m² in den unterem Mittelbereiche messen. Zu den oberen rechten Eckbereich fällt die Helligkeit etwas ab. Die Ausleuchtung liegt bei sehr guten 91%. Im Schnitt kann das eingesetzte Display immer noch gute 299.1 cd/m² liefern.

The eSATA port can be used for fast data transfer with an external eSATA hard disk, ( Battery Acer Aspire One ) just like the FireWire beside it. USB 3.0 isn't installed, but can be retrofitted via the module bay according to Dell. In this case, ( VGP-BPS13A/S Battery ) the DVD drive would be omitted.

The Latitude E6520 can offer the entire range of communication technologies as a business laptop.( Battery Acer Aspire 4710 ) Since we have the basic version, there is neither Bluetooth nor a HSDPA module installed. ( Dell Laptop Battery ) A corresponding mini PCIe socket as well as SIMCard slot is empty. The E6520 of course has WLAN according to standard draft n specifications (Dell Wireless 1501) as wireless technology. ( Latitude D620 Battery ) Additionally, an Intel 82579 LM gigabit controller is installed.

Dell's data protection tool and the backup and recovery manager belong to the installed security tools.( vostro 1400 battery ) The Trusted Platform module or fingerprint reader is unknown to our E6520 version. ( Dell Vostro 1310 battery ) Merely a Kensington Security Slot can be used with the correlating steel cable can be used for protection against theft.

There's not much in the box,( Sony VGP-BPS13A/S battery ) but there is at least a recovery data carrier for Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. The user therefore doesn't have to burn recovery DVDs with his own blanks, as common for most manufacturers. ( Dell Vostro 1320 Battery ) The backup and recovery manager is recommendable if you'd like to backup your arduously set up system.

Tediously connecting all cables becomes unnecessary with Dell's Advanced E/Dock docking station (about 140 Euro). ( Inspiron 1720 Battery ) The user would be extensively equipped with serial, parallel, two PS/2, four USB,( Dell 1520 battery ) VGA, DVI, S-Video, audio, RJ45 and RJ11 (two flat screens). If you don't need so many ports, you can choose the Dell 200-70680 Simple E/Dock docking station (about 120 Euro). The smaller alternative supplies 5 USBs, ( Battery Dell Inspiron 1420 ) eSATA, LAN, VGA, DVI, display port, and audio.

Warranty

The standard warranty ex-factory adds up to 3 years ( Battery Dell Inspiron 1525 ) (service on the next business day). Upgrades are available at Dell's for a surcharge, for example the 3 year Pro Support with onsite repair on the next business day and hardware repair support.

The keys supply a very good feedback due to their crisp pressure point and long key drop. (Battery Sony VGP-BPS13/B ) The clearly separated arrow keys (plus page up) protrude out of the keys rectangle and can thus be used without looking. ( Dell vostro 1510 battery ) A separated number pad (spatially separated) designed like in a desktop keyboard finishes off the typing array.

However, we really get enthusiastic when it comes to the pleasant typing qualities.( Sony VGP-BPS13B/B battery ) The Latitude's key bed is fitted absolutely tight, even over the DVD drive. It bids the typist a firm stroke (not hard). ( battery Vostro 1520 ) The keys are non-slip and the fingers can find their way around accurately due to the clear, conic concavity. On the whole, Dell has succeeded in implementing the advantages of a large desktop keyboard as good as possible into a 15.6 incher. The keyboard backlight is not included in our low priced E6520 version.

Touchpad

The ode of praise continues with the mouse replacement.( Dell inspiron 6400 Battery ) Dell speaks of dual pointing because there is a point stick (3 keys) in addition to the multi-touchpad. This dual mouse input device is also standard in ThinkPads and HP's Elitebooks. ( HP Compaq 8510w battery ) The hands don't have to leave the keyboard to move the pointer. Instead they move the mouse from where they are. This increases the work speed.

Touchpad use is convincing across the bench. ( battery VGP-BPS9/B ) The noiselessness and the large, smooth key drop ensure fast use. The touch surface is pleasantly smooth, but not slippery.
